Sell and redeem gift cards

Gift cards on Quickvee are a tender, not a discount. They live in two places on the POS: the Register (where they are issued and redeemed) and the More menu (where every card on file can be searched, sorted, and inspected for full transaction history and current balance).

What you can do

Register

Issue a new gift card, redeem a full card balance, redeem a partial amount, or chain multiple cards on the same sale

More menu → Gift Cards

Read-only lookup of every card on file. Sortable balance, search/scan to find, full per-card transaction history

Issuing a gift card on the register

  1. From the Register, add the gift card SKU to the cart

  2. Enter or scan the card number on the prompted modal

  3. Enter the load amount

  4. Take payment from the customer (cash, card, or any other tender)

  5. Confirm — the card is loaded and ready to redeem

  6. A receipt is printed showing the card number and loaded amount

The card must be loaded before it can be redeemed. Selling the gift card SKU without entering the card number leaves the card uninitialized.

Redeeming a gift card — full balance

The most common redemption — the customer hands you the card and wants its full balance applied to the sale.

  1. Ring up the items as usual

  2. At payment, tap Gift Card as the tender

  3. Scan or enter the card number — the card's full available balance auto-fills

  4. Confirm the amount

  5. If the card balance covers the entire sale, the transaction completes

  6. If the card balance is less than the sale total, take the remaining amount in another tender (cash, card, etc.)

Redeeming a gift card — partial redemption

When the customer only wants to use part of the card and keep the rest on the balance.

  1. Ring up the items

  2. Tap Gift Card as the tender

  3. Scan or enter the card number — the full balance auto-fills

  4. Edit the amount down to the desired partial redemption

  5. Confirm — only the typed amount is deducted from the card

  6. Remaining card balance stays on the card and is available for future use

  7. Take the rest of the sale total in another tender

The auto-filled amount is the maximum, not a requirement. Always confirm with the customer how much of the card to apply.

Redeeming multiple gift cards on the same sale

You can chain multiple cards on the same transaction — useful when a customer is consolidating several low-balance cards.

  1. Tap Gift Card and redeem the first card (full or partial)

  2. If there is remaining sale balance, tap Gift Card again

  3. Scan the second card and confirm

  4. Repeat until the sale is paid in full or you switch to another tender

Looking up gift cards in the More menu

To check a card's balance or transaction history without ringing up a sale:

  1. From the Register or POS home, tap More

  2. Tap Gift Cards

  3. The Gift Card list opens, showing every card on file

Card transaction history

Tapping any card opens a chronological list of every event: initial load, each redemption (with order ID and remaining balance after), refunds, and any adjustments.

The Gift Card lookup screen is read-only. You cannot adjust balances or void redemptions from this view — issuance and redemption happen at the Register only.

Common questions

The card balance shows zero but the customer says they only used part of it. Open the card in the Gift Cards list (More → Gift Cards) and check the transaction history. Every redemption is logged with the order ID and remaining balance after that redemption.

Can I refund to a gift card? Refunds follow the original tender. A sale paid by gift card is refunded back to that gift card. The card balance increases by the refunded amount.

The card scanner isn't reading the gift card. Most gift cards print a barcode on the back — make sure it's clean and unfolded. If the barcode won't scan, type the card number manually using the entry field on the redemption modal.

Can a customer use a gift card online? Gift cards issued in-store can typically be redeemed online if your store has online ordering enabled. Check Register Settings or contact support to confirm your configuration.
