The Configure PinPad tab connects and configures the PAX payment terminal used for card transactions at the register. This tab handles three things: batch settlement (when card transactions are closed out with your processor), tip prompts (whether the PIN pad asks for a tip and how it behaves on split payments), and the physical connection between the POS and the PAX device.
Where to find it

USB connection
When Communication Type is set to USB, simply connect the PIN pad to the POS device via USB cable. The device connects automatically, no serial number, IP address, or port number configuration is required.
✅ Simplest setup. USB is the fastest way to connect: plug the cable in and go. Ethernet is the right choice when the PIN pad needs to sit apart from the tablet, at the customer side of the counter, for example, but it takes a few more configuration steps.
Verifying the connection
After entering the connection details, tap Verify to test the connection:
|
Toast message |
Meaning |
|---|---|
|
PAX connected! |
PIN pad is successfully connected and ready to process payments. |
|
Pax device update successfully |
PIN pad settings have been updated and saved. |
Tap Save to store the configuration after a successful verification.
Common questions
Q. Do I have to enable Auto Settlement?
A. No, but most stores turn it on and set the time to a few minutes after their scheduled closing hour, that way the batch closes automatically each night without anyone remembering to do it. If you'd rather run it manually at closing, leave it off and use Settle Batch Immediately.
Q. What's the difference between Allow Tips and Allow Split Payment Tips?
A. Allow Tips turns the tip prompt on for standard card transactions. Allow Split Payment Tips extends the prompt to transactions being split across multiple payment methods, useful for restaurants and bars where a single check gets divided.
Q. My PAX device shows connected on Verify but transactions still fail. What now?
A. Verify tests the physical connection to the device, not your payment processor's availability. If Verify passes but sales fail, check your merchant account status with the processor and the PAX's own network connectivity.
Q. Can one PAX terminal serve multiple stations?
A. Each station is configured independently. The PAX device itself is a physical unit at one register position, if you have multiple registers, each needs its own configured PAX.
